What do Farmers think of your Food Security Based Marketing Strategy? Practitioners Share Best Practices

As part of the Community Food Security Conference on Sunday November 5, Luis Sierra, Assistant Director at CCCD, will moderate this workshop to help community food security organizations with food distribution projects that directly involve farmers.

Speakers will provide a diverse set of perspectives based on their different roles in putting together innovative and successful marketing projects, often using what they’ve learned in less successful attempts.

David Visher
of UC Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education Program will provide the ‘30,000 foot perspective’ using case studies of values based distribution supply chains that create new markets for small and mid-sized growers

Neelam Sharma, executive director of Community Services Unlimited in Los Angeles, will provide us some lessons learned from their experiences in organizing farm stands and box programs for low income consumers using produce from small and beginning farmers.

Thomas Nelson
, president of Capay Valley Farm Shop, a grower-owned venture offering a multi-farm Community Supported Agriculture service, will share his experience in developing successful collaborations with private businesses and public institutions.

Richard Firme, owner of Firme Farms, will provide us with his unique perspective as a full time grower and current participant in one of Phat Beets farmers’ market, about what it takes to get to market, and what he looks for in good partners that will help sustain his farm.
